Summer Series Info 2015/6

The 2015/6 Summer Series is almost here. Following last season’s successful series which attracted 50 paddlers from age 8 to 80, we are once again getting ready to get you on the water this summer.

This series will run over 12 races every Sunday at 8.30 am from 13 December 2015 to 28 February 2016.

Sponsors

The Series will once again be sponsored by Pearly’s Restaurant and Langebaan Yacht Club. This year Marc’s Beach Bar, Charles Rickens from Safequip and Brian’s Kayaks have also stepped in to provide prizes.

Additional sponsors for lucky draw prizes are welcomed so if you are keen to assist with these please contact David on 083 7411 711.

Course

The kayak course will be from LYC, south to the lollipop/exclamation mark and back, a distance of about 5 km. SUP’s will paddle to the first of the 3 poles demarcating the channel west toward Kraal Bay, a distance of approximately 3 km.

Incentives

There will be lucky draw prizes each week. All paddlers of all craft will be eligible for the draw. You must be present at the draw to receive a prize. There are no entry fees!

Series winner / Club champion

Points will be accumulated each race to determine the overall series winner in each category.

There will be three age categories for kayaks and surfskis: Junior = 16 and under, Senior = 17 to 54, Master = 55 plus. For double kayaks and SUP’s there is only one category each.

There will also be a junior “participation” category. This is for juniors who do not want to paddle the full distance and instead will paddle to Shark Bay and back. They will be eligible for the lucky draws but not for the series prizes.

A male and female series winner will be declared in each age category. An overall winner will also be declared for the first double kayak/surfski and for the first SUP in the series. Each of these series winners will have their names engraved on a floating trophy to be displayed at LYC and will be declared the Langebaan YC Champion Paddler in their category. Medals will be awarded to the first 3 paddlers in each category.

Participants must complete at least 8 races to qualify for series prizes.

How do the points work?

There is a small but important change this series: Only your 10 best races of the scheduled 12 will count to your final score! However, the emphasis remains on participation rather than on racing and placing.

You will receive 20 points just for finishing any series event.  You will then receive additional points = number of paddlers on the day – your position. If there are 10 paddlers and you come 3rd you will get 20+10-3=27 points. If you do 3 races and come last you will probably get more points than someone who does 2 races and wins.

First Event:

Sunday 13 December 2015 | Registration at 8 am | Start at 8.30am

Coffee and breakfast will be available at the club after the races.
